Aikon Automatic Chronograph 44

The Aikon Automatic Chronograph Ref. AI6038-SS002-430-1 is an impressive chronograph.

44 millimetres in diametre, it is perfect for those who love to ‘feel’ the watch on their wrist, while still being part of the sporty-chic trend, which has never gone out of fashion and has been rediscovered by several watchmakers in these new ‘20s.

However, the Aikon collection is not merely inspired by current fads. Launched in 2016, the design derives from the Calypso, Maurice Lacroix's best seller from 1990 to 2003, disposing of all the curved, shiny and beveled surfaces typical of the style of the early 90s and replacing them with sharp edges, flat profiles and a satin finish, plus updating the dimensions, which are naturally larger.

The iconic six polished riding tabs that adorn the bezel - now flat and satin - have been retained.

While the women's models retain many elements of the Calypso, even on the dials, a completely different direction was chosen for the men's model - with cleaner dials, characterised by a very distinctive clous de Paris or checkered motif.

The technical side has been considerably improved, with automatic movements on a large variety of models, both time-only and chronographs.

Among the latter, the Aikon Automatic Chronograph 44 mm stands out for its excellent quality/price ratio, offering a screw-locked crown, as well as pushers and caseback secured with seven screws, for 200 metres of water-resistance, and a respectable movement.

The automatic caliber ML112 derives from the indestructible ETA-Valjoux 7750, with the sorting of the chronograph functions with cams and oscillating pinion engagement; a movement renowned for its great reliability of the gear train.

As for the chronograph functions (seconds in the centre, hours at 6 o’ clock and minutes at 12v), Maurice Lacroix has combined the indication of the date and day of the week, in English, at 3 o’ clock.
